As the first PC VR headset, the Oculus Rift is responsible for bringing virtual reality into a completely new generation. Previous VR experiences were severely limited and not consumer-ready, like Nintendo's Virtual Boy. Following the Oculus Rift, both PC-based and standalone virtual reality saw a huge uptick in mainstream popularity.
