Nvidia Announces 3090 Ti, 3050 Graphics Cards

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

Nvidia has brought the heat to CES 2022, unveiling the long rumored RTX 3090 Ti, the upgraded version of what is currently the best graphics card on the market. Alongside the 3090 Ti, Nvidia has also revealed the RTX 3050 GPU, a budget graphics card which is still powerful enough for modern games.

The 3090 Ti offers improvements in several areas over the original including:

  • 10,752 CUDA cores vs. 10,496

  • 21 Gbps VRAM vs. 19.5

  • 40 shader TFLOPs vs. 36

Overall, the 3090 Ti seems to be about a 10% upgrade over the original.

The 3050 seems to be Nvidia’s focus for the time being, which makes sense, given that entry-level graphics cards are nearly impossible to find in today’s market. The 3050 seems to be an immense improvement over the 1050 and 1060 Nvidia cards. The 3050 will come with 8GB GDDR6 memory, and 9 shader TFLOPS. The 3050 will also come with 2nd-gen RT Cores to enable ray tracing, and will allow for modern games with ray tracing to be played at over 60 FPS.

The 3090 Ti currently does not have a price point or release date. The 3050 will start at $249, and will be available for sale globally on January 27.

Nvidia also announced a new line of RTX 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti laptops. These laptops were revealed at CES 2022 as well, and the Nvidia cards will be included in over 160 models, from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MSI and Razer. This lineup will start as low as $699, but will obviously vary in price depending on the model and manufacturer.

Some of the laptops will also have pretty impressive displays to match the graphics cards. Nvidia has mentioned in their announcement post that some of the displays will reach up to 4K at 144 Hz, which is great for gamers or creators. Unfortunately, these laptops will likely not utilize 12th-gen hardware, as they are slated to begin releasing on February 1. More information on specific laptops should be available soon from the individual manufacturers.
